COMMERCIAL INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECT

ECO-ADVENTURES, INC.

A Conceptual Design for the Chicago World Headquarters of Eco-Adventures, Inc., an international, eco-friendly travel company. They are seeking a design which reflects company values, such as respect for the environment, and having a non-hierarchical and youthful corporate culture.

CONCEPT & INSPIRATION: BIOLUMINESCENCE

Bioluminescence is a hybrid word, originating from the Greek bios for "living" and the Latin lumen "light”. Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by a living organism as the result of a chemical reaction during which chemical energy is converted to light energy. It is one of those miracles of nature that is dependent on a very fragile eco-system. If the natural habitat for these special organisms is polluted or contaminated, the organisms either die or are no longer able to produce light.

Just like bioluminescence comes forth as a result of shaking up an organism and creating a chemical reaction within, Eco adventures hopes that embarking on an eco-adventure can shake people up and bring forth a new form of enlightenment and awareness about the fragility of our environment.

DESIGN FEATURES

• Colors are shimmering, vibrant, full of light, and are reflective of nature and the sun. Main color scheme is blue, white and orange.

• Just like some microorganisms in nature, the design of the space has a radial organization, with elements irradiating from a common center. Employee common areas are in the middle and offices and cubicles are in the periphery to maximize natural light and window views.

• There are curved wall and organic shapes throughout to reflect nature.

• Cubicle walls are kept low to allow for collaboration and maximize natural light.

• Furniture is translucent and/or lighted from within and above.

• Furniture is also curved and whimsical to reflect company’s young and fun culture.
